All three despite their apparent differences are very much cut from the same cloth. Telling us what they think we want to hear. Rather than stating the obvious.

I spent my high school marching in protests outside the South African Embassy in London whilse the so called idealist world shunned the infamy that is aparhteid .
We've now got an apathetic world filled politicians who are only marginally better than the people they're indebted to ......the lobbiyists and large corporations . Idealism only goes so far nowadays and then reality actually sets in .
Some people tend to hide behind certain cloaks if only to ignore the obvious.

Just as racism exists, so do other wrongs...

Sexism
Elitism
Poverty
Hunger
Sex Abuse
Child Abuse
Battered Women

As I accept racism as a fact and a truth, putting Blacks/Negroes upon a pedastal as the face for racism may be as much a transgression as the actual problem. I've personally experienced reverse racism...does that make things just? If anything, it could continue the machine of negative emotion/perpetual motion. Just the statement, "Times change but inherently the people rarely do", is a thought process which hinders the solution.

I'm an Idealist. I treat people (all people) the way I want to be treated...and that starts from the heart, the home, and the Church.

The race doesn't need a face, it needs a community standing together crying out in one voice, "No More".

Unfortunately there are those amongst us who don't and won't face reality. They seem to be of the opinion that racism no longer exists within this country. And that to my mind is a shame. It's being used as a crux on all sides to make whatever argument they deem fit.
I'm here pointing out the obvious to those who choose to ignore that very fact .

Too true that we should not argue race. Hell, it has been proven that we evolved from some dim African area so many years ago and evolved into what we are by where we lived/all facts thru DNA. Ya don't like it, dump it, but.......King was not a rabble rouser like Sharpton. Jackson is not as bad, but.....
The American experience is that "we" annihliated folks unlike us. Same shit occured in African, still going on. The same can be said of the Australian experience. If you are different, expect mistreatment. Damn shame, but it's a fact!

Where in this piece have I referred to myself as an African American. I have you know that I'm English by birth and of Caribbbean parentage. I don't align myself to the African American experience at all. I've lived much of my adult life in Europe where the restraints weren't as tight on blacks as they are here. I lived in Paris and certain other parts of Europe wasn't under any sort fo constraints as to muy coming and goings. But yet that's still to a point and parcel of what goes on here in the US .
And with regard to these so called improvements for African Americans . When you've got an administration that seeks to repeal many of the advancements that were sought for minorities. That tells me that the advancements achieved meant nothing at all. And as for the Native Americans the treaties they entered into with the Whites over the years have been repeatedly broken time and time again. Have you been on any of their tribal lands as of late ? It's not a bed of milk and roses by any means at all.
Once again another myopic and naive view of an issue.
The US has entrenched itself that it can teach the world something when infact they're the ones in need of a lesson in not only humility but social justice as well .

It'd also help if you read the bio on a contruibutor once in a while that way you'd glean something more about a person before jumping to conclusions that have no basis in merit or substance.

My intent isn't just about the African American race but the fact that they've thrown away golden opportunity of living up to King's ideals. At this juncture it's left to the likes of Jackson and Sharpton . Who in no way are truly representative of those ideals. If anything they're mere charlatans and betrayors of everything that he stood for.

Shame that Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. Big shame/same for 2 others JFK and RFK, remnember them? I could give y'all a history lessom, but I won't. Just check out what Bill Cosby says 'bout the race experience. King drew upon himself and his convictions, no one really helped him. Now we have thugs and rappers in all races with guns and knives. Why??

I'll make this very simple. You refer to yourself as an African-American. Do you want to go back to Africa? If so, go. I'm Italian and I don't refer to myself as an Italian-American. I'm an American. Period.

For you to suggest that blacks don't have it any better today than they did nearly 50 years ago is absurd. Ask a native American Indian how he feels about the evolution of blacks in this country.

No other race has been afforded the opportunities like blacks have in this country. If there's anyone to blame, look in the mirror. If you take a few honest moments to look in the mirror, I guarantee you'll see 99% of the problem looking back at you.

Mean Dovine
I for one believe it mandatory that every African American child be taken to the Lorraine Motel and witness the place as it now is.
That way it'd give 'em an insight as to what King not only stood for but what the country was about at the time.
Too many of 'em just don't fully appreciate what the man was about and what he stood for.
